Travel Companion Volunteer (Wednesdays - Sutton, London)
Mencap’s goal is to make the UK the best place in the world for people with a learning disability to lead happy and healthy lives. We are currently looking for a volunteer to help people with a learning disability, who attend one of our Day Services with travelling to and from our Mencap service.
We need a volunteer to help with our pick up and drop off service, to help enable people to get to and home from our Me Time service in Sutton.
You would need to be available either from 8am-10am or from 14.45-16.45pm on Wednesdays leaving and arriving back at our Me Time Centre in the North Cheam/Worcester Park area of Sutton. Ideally you would be able to support with both pick up and drop off, but if you can only do one time slot any help is beneficial!
You will support the Van Driver with helping people get to and from the van, including knocking on doors, greeting those we support, and guiding people onto and off of our vehicle. It is important you give everybody a warm welcome, and build a rapport with those you interact with. You do not need to be able to drive as part of this role as you will not be driving.
Once those we support arrive to the service, you are welcome to stay and join in with activities and then support with dropping people back home - this can be discussed with the team depending on your availability. The activities that Me Time do on Wednesdays at our centre are cooking class in the mornings and computer time in the afternoon.
Our Me Time service provides local people with a learning disability the chance to learn through activities - indoor and in the community - have fun, and make new friends during the week. By helping people to access our service you will be making a huge difference!
